The Mickey Bass New York Powerhouse Ensemble

For over three decades, Goddard Riverside has hosted a series of Musical Evenings featuring outstanding musicians; The high intensity of this band of Players, with their 'take no prisoners' attitude promises to be a rare Musical treat, and is not to be missed! This band is exactly what it says it is -- A Powerhouse, and maintaining that particular 'mix' will be; Lakecia Benjamin; Alto Sax, Charles Davis Jr; Tenor Sax, Alan Palmer; Piano, Eric Allen; Drums and Bandleader Mickey Bass on Bass.

Legendary Bassist & Bandleader Mickey Bass is a Hard-bop veteran. As a "Jazz Messenger" he Recorded, Composed & Arranged for Art Blakey. Also worked as a Bassist with Billy Eckstine, Hank Mobley, Freddie Hubbard and Sonny Rollins, to name but a few, and Gloria Lynne, for whom he also served as Musical Director. Recordings include stints with; Hank Mobley & Lee Morgan for "Blue Note" Records, Bobby Timmons on "Prestige" and Curtis Fuller on "Mainstream"......

Meanwhile...back to the Band! A powerful young woman is on Alto Sax; Ms. Lakecia Benjamin. A native New Yorker, who graduated from The New School, into Clark Terry's Big Band "Terry's young Titans of Jazz", with whom she then began to tour the World. Recently she has also played with Alicia Keyes, Stevie Wonder, and Rashied Ali. Tenor Saxophonist, Charles Davis Jr. originally 'hails' from Milwaukee, and has worked with Roy Haynes, and The Sun Ra Orchestra. Pianist Allen Palmer, has played with Jackie McLean, and Abraham Burton, and recently played in the revival of the Off-Broadway play "The Connection". Our bombardier; Eric Allen is a former alumni of Mr. Bass' Jazz Ensemble at The Ellington School of The Arts, and has played extensively with Wallace Roney's Quintet. He has also toured Japan with Vocalist Helen Merrill, and played in Illinois Jacquet's band, along with Richard Wyands and 'Slam' Stewart.

"The Co-Operation" Featuring Bryan Carrott; "Jammin' on The Hudson"

Riverbank State Park, in association with Brownstone Entertainment Complex, LLC, for our fifth consecutive year are pleased to present: “Jammin’ On The Hudson”.

On Sunday August 9th we Present; “The Co-operation”.

This Band is the brain-storm of its Bassist/Leader, who left working with Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers to form this band. Band alumni include John Hicks, Michael Carvin, Robin Eubanks, Clifford Adams, Steve Nelson, Wallace Roney, Bobby Watson, Chico Freeman and Wynton Marsalis… The objective of this band, then and now, is to keep alive, and fresh, both Hard-bop and Post-bop; the living Legacy of this Music. A vintage recording of this Band is Sentimental Mood (Chiaroscuro), recently re-issued on Early Bird Records.

This Co-operation will feature a very special guest on the Vibraphone; he played and recorded with David Fat-head Newman, and played in the pit of the Hit Broadway Show The Lion King; the very talented Bryan Carrott. Another returning Band member, who for a number of years now has been a member of Kool and the Gang, is Trombonist Clifford Adams. On Trumpet is the new star on the horizon; Josh Evans. Charles Davis Jr. will be on Tenor Sax. The Bombardier of the band has also been making quite a name for himself in and around town; Emanuel Harrold on Drums. Last, but definitely far from least is a Bassist, Arranger, Composer and Bandleader who has led a fairly illustrious career so far, having worked and recorded with; Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, Sonny Rollins, Art Blakey, Jackie McLean, Bobby Timmons, Freddie Hubbard, Billy Eckstine, Carmen McRae and Gloria Lynne…to name a few. Jammin’ on the Hudson anticipates an outstanding Event; Mickey Bass & ‘The Co-Operation’, Featuring Bryan Carrott.

Jammin’ happens on The Mainstage. If it rains, we move indoors to an auditorium.

"Inimitable" Annie Ross! "

Riverbank State Park, in association with Brownstone Entertainment Complex, LLC, for our fifth consecutive year are pleased to present: "Jammin' On The Hudson".

Our Season 'kicks-off' on Sunday July 12th with....a Legendary vocalist who once stood in for the one-and-only "Lady Day" (Ms. Billie Holiday) at The Apollo; quite a feat, especially at that time; for a white woman to step out onto that 'hallowed' turf in the midst of Harlem! Following the success of this event, she then began to be greatly, and widely revered. As one of the original members of a group who epitomised 'vocalese' she once penned lyrics to a famous tenor saxophone solo by Wardell Gray; "Twisted". She was one third of this one-of-a-kind vocal ensemble called Lambert, Hendricks and she is the very special Ms. Annie Ross. Ms. Ross was recently informed that she will be a recipient of a 2010 N.E.A."Jazz Masters" Award, this month she will be inducted into the ASCAP Jazz Wall of Fame, at Lincoln Center. This July 12th "Jammin' On The Hudson" will have the priviledge of Presenting; Ms. Annie Ross. This is one Event not to be missed!

Riverbank State Park is located at 679 Riverside Drive in New York; between Riverside Drive and The Hudson River, the entrance to the Park is at 145th street and Riverside Drive. On sunny days the Concert Venue is "The Mainstage". If it rains Concerts are held indoors in an auditorium.
